STATPACK: Curragh

Dermot Weld’s Sinkal stole all the headlines at today’s meeting at the Curragh as the 3-year-old won the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden.

Pat Smullen’s mount travelled well in the 1m2f contest before unleashing a devastating turn of foot to dispose of John Oxx’s Marakoush and Aidan O’Brien’s favourite Adjusted.

Weld’s colt showed just why many think the Epsom Derby is a realistic target for him this season.

The showpiece, the Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes, was won by Chris Hayes for Paul Deegan as the duo teamed up to deliver Sruthan to a 1 & 1/2 length success in the 7f affair.

Elsewhere dual contestant Thomas Edison returned from a disappointing season over the jumps to help Fran Berry to a double on the day as he took the War Horse At The Curragh Raceday Handicap by a nose.

STATPACK: Navan

Navan was the venue for yesterday’s big races the Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Salsabil Stakes and P.W. McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes as Dermot Weld enjoyed a terrific battle with Aidan O’Brien.

O’Brien left the County Meath venue with bragging rights courtesy of Dazzling’s win in the Salsabil Stakes and Palace’s romp in the Fillies Maiden. O’Brien also had Terrific finishing third behind Dazzling and John Constable was narrowly beaten by Johnny Murtagh’s Urban Moon.

Joseph O’Brien delivered both winning rides for his father but Pat Smullen also secured two victories onboard Dermot Weld’s Stormfly and Fascinating Rock.

Both jockeys also finished in the top three once during yesterday’s other rides to share the meeting’s top rider plaudits.
